We are a summer camp located in northern MI. Founded in 1952, we have been a home away from home for campers, school groups, weddings, corporate trainings, family reunions and staff to over 3 generations of participants.


LOCATION: Kalkaska, Michigan (30 Miles E. of Traverse City, Michigan)

About Us: Camp Tanuga is a cherished institution with a rich history dating back to 1952. Nestled in the heart of Northern Michigan, our traditional residential summer camp has been providing memorable experiences for campers for over seven decades. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture of inclusion, family, and fun, where lifelong memories are created.

Responsibilities: As a Chef at Tanuga, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our campers receive nutritious and delicious meals that fuel their summer adventures. You will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, and overseeing a dedicated culinary team that includes an additional Chef, prep staff, and seven wait staff members. Your creative touch and culinary expertise will contribute to the “Tanuga Magic”.

Key Duties:

  • Plan and execute diverse and balanced menus to accommodate the dietary needs and preferences of campers and staff.
  • Lead and manage a team of culinary professionals, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the camp kitchen, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance with health codes.
  • Collaborate with the Camp Director and other departments to coordinate special events and themed meals.
  • Manage inventory, order supplies, and maintain an organized and efficient kitchen workspace.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, embodying the camp’s culture of inclusion, family, and fun.


  • Proven experience as a Chef or Sous Chef in a high-volume kitchen setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse culinary team.
  • Proficiency in menu planning, recipe development, and food presentation.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Passion for creating memorable culinary experiences in a camp setting.


  • Room and board can be provided for the duration of the 16-week employment period.
